We call it a project because there are lots of things going on here. We are a family of four living semi-rurally in our owner-built off-grid straw bale home, attachment parenting, homeschooling, farming and homesteading with two other family members on 10 acres. Our goals are self-sufficiency and sustainability as we prepare for the future while living joyfully in the present.

It's a girl!
Finally, a ewe lamb was born last Thursday. This one's a real cutie--lots of colors and very delicate.

What's growing here
Peas, carrots, and radishes next to irises.

The cold frame that we planted in January is now yielding a salad every day so we are finally enjoying fresh veggies from the garden again. We also have several broccoli plants thriving in here.

A few strawberries and spinach to get us inspired for the season.

Here we have more lettuce, more broccoli, and some beets started.

Inside we have tomatoes, basil, peppers, chiles, and a few random herbs and flowers going.

Eliza took this photo of the baby basil.

Hard work
Last weekend we rented a Bobcat to finish our driveway and get some random tasks done. A friend came over to help and jumped at the chance to climb the windmill tower to take photos of the action.
Here is Chris driving the Bobcat and preparing a site for a new 30 foot diameter cistern that will store water and provide a place for us to raise our own fish.

A view of the house from above.

The cistern going in.

The driveway is done!

Most of the piles of construction materials are gone from the front yard. Our vegetable garden will be primarily to the East and Southeast of the house. Chris moved in a lot of sand to mix with our natural clay soil.

He also dug out a pond in the front area which quickly became the world's best sandbox ever.
