I'm not sure what they were doing but it certainly looks interesting! They do seem pleased with the results.
We call it a project because there are lots of things going on here. We are a family of four living semi-rurally in our owner-built off-grid straw bale home, attachment parenting, homeschooling, farming and homesteading with two other family members on 10 acres. Our goals are self-sufficiency and sustainability as we prepare for the future while living joyfully in the present.

Interesting but not surprising
The kids spend their days on the farm moving from one activity to the next, often on their own initiative. A couple of weeks ago Chris came upon this scene:

I often find myself wearing gloves and other protective gear, but working while wearing sandals rather than boots.
The scene looks much like the photos you have here. And I suspect I'll keep doing it, alas.
